Ace of Aces is a combat flight simulator set in World War II, developed by Artech Digital Entertainment and published in 1986 by Accolade (as well as by U.S. Gold, and Tiertex Design Studios) for the Amstrad CPC, Atari 8bit computers, Atari 7800, Commodore 64, MSX, ZX Spectrum, PC (MS-DOS) and Sega Master System. In 1988 Atari Corporation released a version on cartridge styled for the then-new Atari XEGS.

Review
Ace of AcesSTORY / GAMEPLAY
Ace of Aces captures the spirit of attacking Berlin, and puts you in the cockpit of the Mosquito, a famous twin-engined long range fighter-bomber equipped with rockets, bombs and a cannon. You chose among four type of missions: down the Nazi bombers, sink the U-boats, outrun the V-1 Buzz Bombs and stop the enemy trains. Before each mission, you should choose your weapons and fuel wisely though once you are out inthe skies, as there is no way back. Of course, you may choose to go for a training session before getting to the real thing. During flight, you have the option to change different view-ports: the cockpit, both left and right wings, the navigational map and the bomb bay. All view-ports can be accessed by using the keyboard or by double-tapping the fire button and moving the joystick to the desired direction. Fortunately, at the end of each mission, landing is not required and points are awarded according to how many enemies are shot down or destroyed in the ground and sea.

GRAPHICS / SOUND
Technically the game is good and the graphics detail and color usage are certainly pretty good. The cockpit is nicely depicted, while it is really impressive for a mid 80s flight-sim game to show different layers of clouds while in the skies!
The sound effects are solid gun-shots fulfilling their purpose, but doing little to enhance further the game.
